The Price of a False Legacy and the Secret That Rebuilt a Dynasty
It was an incoming call from an unknown number.
I hesitated, then swiped the screen to answer.
“Claire,” a tired voice said.
It was Harrison.
“Why are you calling me, Harrison?” I asked.
“My mother told me what she did today,” he said, his voice shaking slightly. “She said she served you.”
“She did,” I said.
“She told me it was the only way to save the family business,” Harrison said. “She said you were trying to destroy us.”
“Is that what you believe?” I asked.
There was a long silence on the other end of the line. I could hear the sound of a television playing faintly in his background.
“I don’t know what to believe anymore,” Harrison said. “But she told me you have some documents. She’s panicked, Claire. I’ve never seen her like this.”
“Your mother committed felony bank fraud, Harrison,” I said. “And she used both of our names to do it.”
“What do you mean, both of our names?” he asked, his voice cracking.
“I’ll see you tomorrow morning at the board meeting,” I said. “You can see the proof for yourself.”
