“He claims he does,” Elena said. “But Harrison is a desperate man.”
“He offered to testify against her,” I said.
“In exchange for what?” Elena asked.
“He said he needs me to save him from bankruptcy,” I replied.
Elena stood up, smoothing the front of her trousers.
“He wants you to pay off his personal creditors,” she said. “Or buy out his share of Voss Holdings so he has cash to settle.”
“Can I do that?” I asked.
“Legally, yes,” Elena said. “But it would cost you millions.”
“Millions I don’t have to throw away on him,” I said.
“If you don’t,” Elena said, “the Chicago firm takes your code, and your company is done.”
She closed the folder with a heavy thud.
“We need to see what he actually has first,” she said.
My phone buzzed on the desk again.
This time, it was a text message from the same unknown number.
I picked it up and read the screen.
