“They tracked my car too?” I asked, my voice trembling.

“No,” Hannah said, looking at me.

“I did not tell them where I was going.”

“But Marissa’s lawyers have a warrant for your arrest, Ryker.”

“They are using the state police to hunt you down.”

“Why didn’t you tell them?” Ryker asked, stepping closer to her.

Hannah looked over at the sleeping twins.

Her expression softened, a look of deep worry crossing her face.

“Because I do not think Marissa should have them either,” she said quietly.

“But what you are doing is illegal, Ryker.”

“I cannot protect you if you keep hiding them.”

“We are not hiding them forever,” Ryker said.

“We just need forty-eight hours.”

“To do what?” Hannah asked.

“To prove Marissa stole their inheritance,” Ryker said.

“If we prove that, the state will revoke her guardianship immediately.”

Hannah looked at him, searching his face.

“Do you have proof?” she asked.

“We are getting it,” Ryker said.

“My team is working on the offshore accounts right now.”

Hannah sighed, rubbing her temples.

“If the police find them here, I will lose my job,” she said.
