Julian turned to me, his expression grave. “Who are we calling?”

“Graham,” I said. “And Marjorie. They need to be here together.”

“They will not come willingly if they know the police are involved,” Julian noted.

“We will not tell them about the police,” I said. “Tell them we are meeting to discuss a private settlement regarding the ring and the divorce.”

“And the police?” Julian asked.

“I will call Detective Miller,” I said. “He has been waiting for the final audit paperwork.”

“He can wait in the vestry with Pastor Whitcomb,” Julian said.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Graham’s number first.

It rang three times before he answered, his voice tight and defensive.

“Evelyn,” he said. “What is this about?”

“I am at Grace Harbor Chapel,” I said, keeping my voice level. “With Julian.”

There was a pause on the other end of the line.

“Why are you at the church?” Graham asked.

“We need to talk about the ring,” I said. “And the terms of the separation. I am willing to discuss a private settlement.”
