“In fact, I think we have some urgent business to discuss regarding the Caldwell estate.”

He tapped the paper against his palm, his eyes locked on mine.

“I’ve just come from the county clerk,” Graham said.

“The petition has been filed.”

“On what grounds?” Julian asked, his voice tight.

“Fraud and undue influence,” Graham replied, stepping closer.

“I am contesting the marital protection clause in your grandmother’s trust, Evelyn.”

I felt the blood rush to my ears, hot and loud.

“That clause was put in place to protect my family’s legacy,” I said, my voice shaking.

“It was put in place by a woman whose mind was failing her,” Graham countered.

He gestured to the document Julian still held in his hand.

“My mother is prepared to testify that your grandmother was not of sound mind when she altered that trust.”

“Marjorie signed as a witness,” Julian said, gesturing to the yellowed paper on the altar.

“She signed under duress,” Graham said, his smile widening.

“Your grandmother threatened to cut my mother out of the social circles she spent thirty years building.”
