“Cancel the transport,” Ethan said.

“Dr. Harrison, the court order…” the nurse started.

“I said cancel it,” Ethan roared.

The nurse jumped slightly and quickly nodded, stepping back into the hallway.

Ethan turned to the two men in suits.

“If either of you touch these children, I will have the hospital security arrest you for kidnapping,” he said.

“We have a legal document, doctor,” the lead man said.

“I don’t care,” Ethan said. “Get out of my ICU.”

The men looked at Eleanor.

She gave them a tight, barely visible nod.

They turned and walked out of the room, their heavy shoes squeaking on the wet floor.

Eleanor adjusted the strap of her designer handbag.

“You are making a terrible mistake, Ethan,” she said.

“You cannot fight your father,” she said. “He owns the judges. He owns this hospital.”

“He doesn’t own me,” Ethan said.

“He does,” Eleanor said softly. “He bought your education. He bought your reputation.”

“Everything you have is because of him,” she said.

Ethan did not reply.

He walked over to my bedside and took my hand.
