“The liquidation is canceled,” I said, walking to the head of the table.
I pulled out the chair that had belonged to Ethan and sat down.
“You don’t have the authority to do that,” one of the board members, a woman named Sarah, said.
“I have forty percent of the voting shares,” I said, placing my briefcase on the table.
“And with Ethan in federal custody, his shares have been frozen by the court,” I continued.
“The federal prosecutor has designated me as the temporary trustee of those shares to prevent the company’s collapse,” I said.
I opened my briefcase and took out the court order, sliding it across the glass.

“This can’t be legal,” he muttered.
“It is entirely legal,” I said. “And it’s the only thing keeping this company from bankruptcy.”
“What do you want, Claire?” Sarah asked, her voice trembling slightly.
“I want the resignations of every board member who signed off on the offshore transfers,” I said.
“That’s half the room,” Arthur said.
“Then half the room needs to pack their things by noon,” I said.
