“You think you can just lock me out of my own life?” he asked.

He grabbed my jaw, his thumb digging hard into my cheekbone.

“I went to transfer the Cayman funds this morning,” he said.

“The screen said ‘Account Restricted.'”

“The Swiss accounts. The offshore trusts. All of them.”

“Frozen.”

I stared back at him, refusing to blink despite the pain in my face.

“The forensic trail was easy to follow, Ethan,” I said.

“I told the feds exactly where to look.”

He slapped me.

The blow spun my head to the side, my cheek burning instantly.

“Shut up,” he hissed.

“You’re going to unfreeze them.”

“I can’t,” I said, spitting blood onto the floor. “The authorities have the keys now.”

“Don’t lie to me!” he screamed, his face turning red under the flashlight beam.

“The feds don’t have the master key yet. If they did, I’d be in handcuffs.”

“They’re waiting for verification. You still have it.”

He was right, but I had to keep my face completely blank.

“Where is Liam?” I asked again, my voice trembling.

Ethan smiled, a cruel, empty expression.
