Liam lowered the iron pipe, his shoulders dropping slightly.

“Did you do that?” he asked, looking at me.

“I triggered the self-defense mechanism of his own company,” I said, my voice barely a whisper. “He can’t pay his security team. He can’t pay his lawyers. He’s completely broke until the audit is resolved.”

I stood up, my legs shaking.

I pulled the USB drive from the port and slipped it into my pocket.

“We have to go,” I said. “He still has people who might be loyal to him out of fear. And my mother is still in that home.”

“I’ve already called a contact from my old unit,” Liam said, setting the pipe down on the utility rack. “They’re moving her to a secure facility as we speak. She’ll be gone before Ethan’s man can even get past the front desk.”

“Are you sure?” I asked.

“I trust these men with my life,” Liam said. “They’re already on site.”

He walked over to me and put a hand on my shoulder.

“But we can’t stay here,” he added. “The hospital isn’t safe anymore. Vance has too many connections.”
