The Ledger of Secrets That Cost My Husband His Empire
“Did you get the picture, Claire?” Ethan’s voice asked.
His tone was smooth, devoid of any warmth.
I pressed the phone tight against my ear, my knuckles turning white.
“She has nothing to do with this, Ethan,” I said.
My voice sounded thin in the cold, narrow corridor of the server room.
“She has everything to do with you,” Ethan replied.
Behind me, Miller threw his weight against the heavy metal door.
The frame groaned, and the latch rattled violently in its housing.
Liam stood his ground, the rusted iron pipe raised over his right shoulder.
“Get back, Miller!” Liam shouted, his chest heaving under his scrub top.
“We have security backup on the way, Doctor!” Miller yelled through the gap. “Step away from the console!”
I looked down at the phone in my palm, then at the flashing monitor screen.
The red warning box was still there: *Corporate Assets Locked. Audit Pending.*
But that was only a temporary freeze, a pause button I had hit from the outside.
If I ran now, Ethan would find a way to bypass it with his team of high-priced lawyers by morning.
