“But what about Dad?”
“Let me worry about your father,” I said.
I tapped the airline app on my dashboard mount.
The economy seats were still available on the morning flight.
“Can you and Chloe pack your bags right now?” I asked.
“We’re already packed,” he said. “Dad told us to get ready to go to the airport. But he’s still screaming downstairs.”
“Where is Valerie?”
“She’s trying to talk to the resort manager,” Dylan said. “They won’t let us check out because the card on file was declined.”
I smiled in the darkness of my car.

“Dylan,” I said. “I want you to take Chloe and go down to the lobby.”
“What about Dad?”
“If he sees you, just tell him you are going to get some air,” I said. “Do not argue with him.”
“Okay,” he whispered.
“I am going to call the resort front desk,” I said. “I will pay for the incidentals and the room tax on my personal account.”
My father had left me a small savings account that Richard had never known about.
