Richard pulled it out, and the screen lit up with the name of his contact at the central bank.
Richard pressed the speaker button on the dashboard console.
“Richard,” a voice said, sharp and breathless. It was Marcus, his chief financial advisor at the central bank. “We have a massive movement on the Whitmore primary trust.”
“What is she doing, Marcus?” Richard asked.
“She bypassed the local branches,” Marcus explained. “She initiated a manual override from a private terminal. She’s attempting to move forty-two million dollars into an unlisted account in Zurich.”
Margaret let out a sharp, venomous laugh. “My husband knew how to protect what was ours,” she spit out, her glare directed at me. “You think you can lock me out of my own life?”
“Can you block it, Marcus?” I asked, leaning closer to the phone. My voice sounded thin and fragile in the high-ceilinged space.
“The freeze we put in place with the state attorney is holding,” Marcus said. “But she’s using a secondary clearance code. A power of attorney signed by her late husband.”
