“If you refuse, Maya will not leave this estate alive.”
“And I will personally ensure your three children are found and brought under my care.”
“You have until midnight to make your choice.”
“Do not try to find her, and do not contact your mother.”
I saw Camille’s eyes narrow slightly at the mention of Isabella.
“Isabella cannot help you this time, Adrian,” Salvatore added. “Her little network is being watched.”
“You have four hours,” Salvatore said, and tapped the screen to end the call.
The silence returned to the room, heavier than before.
The guard finally released his grip on my mouth.
I coughed, drawing in the dry, warm air of the study.
“Adrian will never do it,” I said, looking directly into Salvatore’s cold eyes.
“He will,” Salvatore replied calmly. “Because he knows I do not make idle threats.”
He waved his hand dismissively toward the door.
“Take her down to the cellar. Keep her fed, but do not let her move.”
The guard grabbed my arm again, pulling me toward a side door.
Camille watched me go, a small, cold smile playing on her lips.
