“What about you?” I asked, stepping back out into the warehouse.

“I have to draw them away from this side of the building,” he said.

“Adrian, no,” I said, grabbing his hand.

“They want me, Maya,” he said. “Camille wants me back, or she wants me dead. Either way, she won’t search this deep if she thinks I’m trying to escape through the docks.”

“She’ll kill you,” I said.

“She won’t,” he said, but his voice lacked conviction.

A heavy thud sounded from the front of the warehouse.

Someone was hammering on the main entrance.

“They’re breaching,” Isabella said, her gun raised.

“Go back inside, Maya,” Adrian said, pushing me gently toward the heavy steel door.

“I’m not leaving you,” I said.

“You have to protect them,” he said, gesturing toward the sleeping children.

I looked at the triplets, then at Adrian.

“If they find this room, they take them,” I said.

“They won’t find it,” Adrian said. “The door is flush with the wall. Once it’s locked, it looks like a support pillar.”

He grabbed the handle of the heavy wheel.

“Get in,” he commanded.
