He reached out and tapped the face of his watch.
The gold bezel caught the light of his flashlight.
“The digital transfer is already queued,” Harrison said.
“All it needs is the final confirmation from the trustee portal.”
“The Bennett Trust cannot be transferred without the original deed of release,” I said.
“Matteo’s mother never signed it, and neither did mine.”
Harrison smiled, his teeth showing white in the darkness.
“Your mother is dead, Vivian.”
“And Matteo’s mother is too old to care.”
“The court will accept the copy we filed,” he said.
“I have the original right here,” I said, my hand still pressing against my jacket.
I regretted the words as soon as they left my mouth.
Harrison’s smile vanished.
His eyes narrowed, focusing on my chest.
“Hand it over,” he said.
“No,” I said.
“You have lied to me for three years, Harrison.”
“You and Beatrice and Sloane.”
“I know about Dr. Marren,” I said.
“I know what you paid him to write in those medical reports.”
