“None of this changes the legal documents Emily signed,” Gavin said, pointing a finger at me.
“The downtown restaurant and the main holdings are legally mine.”
Daniel stepped forward from the side of the stage, holding a thick leather folder.
“Actually, Gavin, they are not,” Daniel said.
“The forensic signature specialists have already finished their analysis of the transfer deeds.”
“They are obvious, poorly executed forgeries,” Daniel added, looking toward the ballroom entrance.

Two uniformed police officers stepped through the wet doorway, their boots thudding against the polished floor.
They walked past the shivering guests, their eyes locked onto Gavin.
“Gavin Vance?” the lead officer asked, stopping at the edge of the stage.
“You are under arrest for grand larceny, forgery, and bank fraud.”
Gavin’s face turned a sickly shade of gray under the stage lights.
He looked at the officers, then at the side exits, realizing he was completely cornered.
“This is a mistake,” Gavin said, stepping back toward the edge of the platform. “My wife signed those papers willingly.”
