“To Grant,” Daniel said. “I handed it to him in person. Usually once a month.”

I felt the air leave my lungs.

“How was the cash transported?” Sarah asked, stepping closer to Daniel.

“In gray canvas courier bags,” Daniel said. “We met at the warehouse near the river.”

My mind raced back to the drawings Mrs. Latham had shown me.

Nolan’s drawings.

The little figures in the warehouse, the gray bags, and the man in the blue shirt.

“Did Grant wear a specific shirt when he met you?” I asked, unable to keep quiet.

“Mrs. Bellamy, please let your counsel speak,” Judge Harlan said, though his tone was surprisingly gentle.

“It’s alright, Your Honor,” Sarah said. “Mr. Vance, did Grant wear a faded blue work shirt during these meetings?”

Daniel looked confused for a second, then nodded.

“Yes,” Daniel said. “He kept it in his trunk. He said he didn’t want to get dust from the shipping crates on his good suits.”

“The blue shirt,” I whispered.
