The Hidden Truth in a Faded Blue Shirt That Saved My Family
“There’s more,” I said, leaning forward.
I told her about the phone call from Daniel the previous night.
Sarah listened intently, her pen hovering over a yellow legal pad.
“Daniel is the key to Grant’s hidden assets,” I said. “My mother remembers him. He handled the off-the-books cash.”
“If Daniel has the real ledgers, Grant’s financial affidavit in court is a lie,” Sarah said.
“A fraudulent financial disclosure is perjury,” she continued, her voice growing firmer.
“Can we get a forensic accountant?” I asked.
“We can petition Judge Harlan to appoint one,” Sarah said. “Especially if we can show a specific connection to Daniel’s accounts.”
She tapped her pen on the desk, looking thoughtful.
“If a forensic accountant starts auditing Grant’s construction business, his lawyer, Preston Carroway, is going to panic.”
“That’s exactly what we need,” I said.
“It is,” Sarah said. “But we have to be careful. Grant is powerful in this county.”
She leaned back in her chair, studying me.
“Are you prepared for how ugly this is going to get once we file these papers?”
