“And the medical fraud?” Alexander asked.

“We have a signed affidavit from the former director of the clinic,” Robert said. “He retired two years ago and is currently living in Spain. He was quite cooperative once we explained the penalties for international conspiracy.”

He picked up a white sheet of paper from the top of the pile.

“My office is filing charges of grand larceny, corporate embezzlement, and falsification of business records,” Robert said. “The warrant for Victoria Sterling’s arrest was signed ten minutes ago.”

I felt a sudden, sharp intake of breath.

“An arrest warrant?” I asked. “For Victoria?”

“Yes, Ms. Hart,” the district attorney said. “Given her resources and her overseas assets, she is considered a flight risk. She will be taken into custody today.”

Alexander didn’t say anything for a long moment, his face showing no emotion.

He looked out the window at the city below, his hands clasped behind his back.

“Where is she now?” Alexander asked.

“We believe she is at her apartment on Fifth Avenue,” Robert said. “Our officers are already on their way there.”
