“Don’t lie to me,” Alexander said, his voice rising.

The sound made Lucas jump, dropping his hand from the silver yacht.

I reached out and pulled both boys behind me, my fingers tight on their shoulders.

“I looked at the transactions myself,” Alexander said, leaning over the desk. “You paid Dr. Vance half a million dollars the week before Emma left.”

Victoria’s face remained smooth, devoid of any guilt.

She took off her leather gloves, one finger at a time, and placed them in her bag.

“Dr. Vance was a family consultant,” she said smoothly. “We had many dealings with him. If he made a mistake in your records, that is his professional failure, not mine.”
