The Hidden Legacy of the Housekeeper Who Saved My Life
“The session is over, Mother,” Nathan said.
He walked to the middle of the room, stopping opposite her.
I stood right beside him, holding the folder where everyone could see it.
“This is highly irregular,” said a grey-haired man sitting near the window.
It was Mr. Sterling, the senior member of the board.
“Nathan has been suspended pending an investigation,” Eleanor told the room.
“That is a lie,” Nathan said.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out Johnny’s phone.
He slid the phone across the polished wood toward Mr. Sterling.
“What is the meaning of this?” Mr. Sterling asked, looking down at the device.
“That phone contains a recording of my mother,” Nathan said. “It is proof of corporate fraud.”
Eleanor’s eyes flicked to the phone, then to me.
Her expression did not change, but her fingers tightened against the edge of the table.
“My mother has spent the last ten years altering my father’s trusts,” Nathan said.
A low murmur went through the room.
“That is absurd,” Eleanor said, looking at the board members. “Nathan is clearly under immense stress.”
