I climbed out first, my boots gripping the wet iron grates of the fire escape.
Jonathan helped Rebecca through the frame, and then he followed, closing the window behind us.
We hurried down the metal stairs, our footsteps muffled by the sound of traffic on the street below.
At the bottom of the alley, Benjamin’s black sedan was waiting, its engine idling quietly.
Benjamin opened the passenger door from the inside. “Get in. Quickly.”
We piled into the backseat, the leather cold against my legs.
“Harrison knows we have the files,” Jonathan said as Benjamin pulled out into the street. “He sent men to the studio.”
“He is desperate,” Benjamin said, looking at us through the rearview mirror. “The board is meeting right now at the Madison Avenue offices.”
“Are they voting on the restructuring?” I asked.
“Yes,” Benjamin replied. “Harrison thinks he has the votes to take complete control.”
Rebecca gripped her purse tightly in her lap.
“I have the offshore transaction records on this drive,” Benjamin said, tapping the dashboard. “But we need Rebecca to confirm the signatures.”
