My phone rang an hour later.

The caller ID showed an unknown number.

I answered it, expecting another reporter trying to get a quote.

“Mariana,” a sharp, familiar voice said.

It was Rebecca.

Her voice lacked its usual icy confidence, sounding frantic instead.

“Rebecca?” I said, signaling to Jonathan.

He stepped closer, his face instantly darkening.

“I saw the press conference,” Rebecca said.

“What do you want?” I asked.

“He actually did it,” she whispered. “He gave up the CEO seat. He gave up everything.”

“He chose his children,” I said.

“He is an idiot,” she spat, though her voice shook. “He just handed Harrison the keys to the entire legacy.”

“Why are you calling me, Rebecca?”

“Because Harrison is going to ruin us all,” she said. “He told me he would take care of me. But he is already moving his own people into the board.”

“He is going to freeze me out of the estate.”

She took a sharp, shaky breath.

“I want a divorce from Jonathan,” she said. “A quiet one. With a very specific settlement.”

“Why would Jonathan give you a dime now?” I asked.
