“You think you can destroy me?”

“I made you!”

“You made nothing, Martin,” my father said.

“You took millions from the payroll accounts.”

“The audit is complete.”

The officer guided Martin down the steps toward the waiting cruiser.

“This won’t hold up in court!” Martin screamed as they put him in the backseat.

“My lawyers will have me out in an hour!”

The officer shut the door, cutting off his shouts.

Claire watched the cruiser doors close.

She looked back at the man in the suit, then at my father.

“You can’t freeze my accounts,” she said, her voice cracking.

“I have nothing to do with his business decisions.”

“The court disagrees,” the server said.

“The evidence shows the funds went directly into your personal accounts.”

Claire reached into her designer handbag and pulled out her phone.

She frantically tapped the screen.

“It’s not working,” she whispered.

“My banking app.”

“It says access denied.”

She looked up at my father, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and fury.

“Daniel, please,” she said, taking a step toward him.

“We can talk about this.”
