“What about the assets?” my father asked. “If Claire realizes what we are doing, she will move the money offshore.”

“I am already drafting an emergency freezing order,” John said.

He tapped his black pen against the desk.

“We will freeze every personal and corporate account associated with Claire and Martin Collins,” John added.

I felt a weight lift from my shoulders, but my heart was still pounding in my chest.

“Will they go to jail?” I asked.

John looked at me, his eyes softening slightly.

“Your grandfather is looking at significant federal time, Sophie,” John said. “And your mother will be facing felony charges as an accessory.”

The door to the office opened.

A broad-shouldered man in a brown suit walked in, carrying a clipboard.

“Daniel, this is Detective Henderson,” John said.

The detective nodded at my father.

“I’ve got the team standby near the Upper Arlington area,” Detective Henderson said.

Upper Arlington was where Martin lived in his sprawling brick mansion.

“Good,” John said. “We have the signature logs. I want the arrest warrant executed before the banks close.”
