The Frozen Secret of Crystal Oak and the Father Who Never Died
“Your father used the restaurant’s network to route the files so Bellamy couldn’t track them.”
I looked at Charles.
“The manager’s computer,” I said. “The one in Trevor’s office.”
“If the files are routed through the restaurant’s old system, they might still be there,” Charles said, nodding.
“But we need to get past Trevor’s encryption,” I said. “I don’t know the passwords.”
“I have the best IT specialists in the country on my payroll,” Charles said. “They can crack any drive in minutes.”
“But we need physical access to that computer.”
I reached into my pocket and felt the cold brass keys of the Crystal Oak.
Now that Trevor was suspended and I had the authority, those keys belonged to me.
“We go back to the restaurant,” I said.
“Not tonight,” Charles said, looking out the window at the swirling blizzard. “The roads are getting too dangerous.”
“We do it first thing in the morning.”
I turned back to my mother, kissing her forehead.
“I’m going to get the police, Mom. I’m going to end this.”
“Be careful, Emily,” she whispered, her eyes closing from sheer exhaustion. “Julian won’t stop.”
