Grant was slumped against the table, his forehead bleeding from a small cut where he had hit the wood.
“You have nothing,” Grant spat, looking up at me through his disheveled hair. “The accounts are encrypted. You can’t prove anything.”
“We don’t need the encryption keys to prove you took her, Grant,” I said, holding Lily tighter.
“She’s my daughter,” Grant snarled. “I can take her wherever I want.”
“Not when you’ve crossed state lines with a child who has been reported missing under suspicious circumstances,” Harris said, stepping between us. “And not when you’ve used stolen funds to finance your flight.”
Vanessa was sitting on the floor, her shoulder slumped at an unnatural angle.
She glared at me, her lipstick smeared across her chin.
“You think you’ve won, Evelyn?” Vanessa whispered. “You’re just a glorified government thug. Your past is going to catch up with you.”
