I pressed the receiver on the steering wheel.

“Evelyn,” Grant’s voice came through the speakers, distorted and breathless.

“If you touch her, Grant, I will hunt you to the ends of the earth,” I said.

“You took everything from me,” Grant snarled. “The money, the house, my reputation. I have nothing left to lose.”

“The federal government has you,” I said. “You cannot escape.”

“I don’t need to escape the country,” Grant said. “I just need enough leverage to get my accounts unfrozen. I am signing Lily out.”

“They won’t let you,” I said. “The police are on their way.”

“The school doesn’t know that,” Grant said. “And if I see a single police cruiser before I have her in my custody, Vanessa will end this.”

The line went dead.

“Marcus, tell me you got a trace,” I yelled.

“He’s on the I-25 corridor, heading north,” Marcus said. “He’s less than a mile from the school.”

I pushed the accelerator to the floor, the engine roaring as the SUV sped through a red light.
