“Enter the secondary password,” Vanessa hissed, leaning over his shoulder.
“I am trying,” Grant said, his fingers flying across the keys. “It’s not accepting the keystrokes.”
A bright red screen flashed, illuminating the entire room in a crimson glow.
The words *ASSET SEIZURE: FEDERAL WARRANT* appeared in bold black letters across the display.
“No,” Grant whispered, dropping his hands from the keyboard. “No, no, no.”
“What did you do?” Vanessa demanded, grabbing his collar. “Where is the money?”
“It’s gone,” Grant said. “Every account. The domestic holdings, the offshore trusts, the shell accounts. They are all frozen.”
“They can’t freeze the Swiss accounts,” Vanessa said, her voice rising in anger. “They don’t have the jurisdiction.”
“They have a mutual legal assistance treaty,” I said, stepping into the doorway with my weapon raised. “And they have me.”
Grant flinched, his eyes widening as he looked at the barrel of my gun.
Vanessa did not flinch; she slowly let go of Grant’s collar, her eyes narrowing into cold slits.
“Evelyn,” Grant stammered, his hand holding the silver pistol trembling. “You’re supposed to be dead.”
