The Federal Agent Who Returned to Reclaim Her Shattered Home and Child
“Grant has been working behind the scenes with a local attorney,” Marcus said. “A man named Harold Sterling.”
“Sterling handles dirty custody disputes for the Denver elite,” I said. “He is known for fabricating evidence.”
“Exactly,” Marcus nodded. “He has two family court judges in his pocket.”
“They are going after Lily,” I said.
“He is preparing a petition,” Marcus warned. “He is going to claim you abandoned your daughter when you went deep cover.”
“I was on a sanctioned federal assignment,” I said.
“The records of your assignment are highly classified,” Marcus reminded me. “To a local family court judge, you look like a mother who walked out and left her traumatized child behind.”
I gripped the edge of the metal desk until my knuckles turned white.
“They want to cut me off completely,” I said.
“If the judge signs the emergency order, you won’t be allowed within five hundred feet of the estate,” Marcus said. “Or Lily.”
“I have to get her out of there,” I said.
“If you take her now, it will look like parental kidnapping,” Marcus said. “You’ll be a fugitive from your own family.”
