“You think you’ve won something here, Natalie?” Victoria asked, stepping closer to me.

The scent of her expensive lavender perfume washed over me, making my stomach turn.

“You just destroyed the father of your child,” she said.

“He was never his father,” I said. “He is an imposter. A criminal.”

“He was the legal husband on your marriage certificate,” Victoria said, a cruel smile touching the corners of her mouth.

She reached into her purse, which the agents had left on the table after searching it.

She pulled out a slim silver pen and tapped it against her palm.

“The Callahan trust is structured in a very specific way,” she said.

“Without Tyler—without a legal heir certified by the board—every single asset is frozen.”

“My child is the heir,” I said, my voice shaking despite my best efforts.

“Your child is an unborn question mark,” Victoria countered.

She took another step toward me, her heels clicking sharply on the flagstones.

“I have the best estate lawyers in the state of California on retainer.”

“They will tie this estate up in probate court for the next thirty years.”
