The False Heir and the Ledger of the Callahan Family Empire
Victoria finally froze.
She slowly turned her gaze toward the open door.
The fog was rolling in from the harbor, thick and grey.
Through the mist, the faint sound of sirens began to echo.
They were far away, but they were coming.
“We have to go,” Chloe panicked, grabbing Julian’s arm.
“Julian, leave the book.”
“We have the offshore accounts in the Bahamas.”
“We can get to the private strip.”
Julian looked at the ledger, then at Victoria.
“Mother?” he asked.
Victoria’s face was a mask of cold fury.
“I am not leaving without the ledger,” she said.
She grabbed the collar of my coat and pulled me upward.
I struggled against her grip, but the pain in my stomach made me weak.
“You are coming with us, Natalie,” Victoria whispered in my ear.
“You and the baby.”
“You are still our leverage.”
I looked down at my phone on the floor.
The screen was still lit.
A message from Adelaide flashed on the screen.
“What have you done, Victoria?” the text read.
The sirens grew louder, their high-pitched wails cutting through the damp night air.
