His hands were secured in steel handcuffs behind his back.

He refused to look at us, his eyes fixed on the gray carpet.

“Mr. Vale,” Detective Harris said, stepping into the room.

“We have recovered the primary ledgers from Ms. Crane’s possession.”

“We also found the hard drives she attempted to remove from the vault.”

I stepped forward and opened my laptop on the table.

“I have the matching decryption keys right here,” I said.

“They prove Marcus authorized the transactions using a forged digital signature.”

“The files also show the exact dates the funds were transferred to Victoria’s accounts.”

The detective looked at the glowing screen, then at the drive plugged into my laptop.

He nodded to one of his officers, who pulled a plastic evidence bag from his pocket.

“We’ll need to secure this drive, Ms. Bennett,” Harris said.

“Of course,” I said, carefully unplugging the device and placing it inside the bag.

Marcus finally looked up, his face pale and twisted with anger.

“This is a setup,” Marcus hissed, his voice cracking.

“She was my secretary. She stole those files from my private server.”
