Marcus stopped, the tip of his pen hovering a millimeter above the signature line.
He looked up at the screen.
The smile froze on his face.
In the server room, Arthur took another step toward me, his boots clicking on the linoleum floor.
“Give me the phone, Clara,” Arthur said.
“Listen to the broadcast, Arthur,” I said, pointing toward the wall-mounted monitor in the corner of the server room.
The monitor, which was hooked into the building’s main network, flickered.
The financial ledgers began to scroll down the screen in bright white text.
Beside the numbers, Marcus’s private IP address was displayed, highlighted in yellow.
Underneath it, the system logs showed the exact date and time he had accessed Alexander’s personal account to sign the fraudulent transfer orders.
“My god,” Toby breathed, staring at the monitor. “That’s Marcus’s personal network ID.”
“He used the administrator bypass to frame Alexander,” I said.
Arthur didn’t look at the monitor.
He kept his eyes on me, his hand still inside his jacket.
“Victoria doesn’t care about the ledgers,” Arthur said. “She cares about the merger. And you are interfering.”
