The line crackled with static before a voice spoke.

“Mrs. Caldwell, this is Detective Miller.”

I held my breath, watching the rain streak the grime-streaked window.

“We have Grant Caldwell and Vanessa Hart in custody at the precinct,” he said.

“What about Helen?” I asked.

“She is currently being questioned regarding the destruction of financial records,” the detective replied.

I closed my eyes, feeling a sudden weight lift from my chest.

“Thank you, Detective,” I said.

“We will need you to come down in the morning to sign the formal complaint,” he said.

“I will be there,” I said.

I ended the call and slipped the phone into my coat pocket.

Marcus looked at me, his eyes questioning.

“They have them,” I said simply.

Dina let out a long, trembling breath.

“It is finally over,” she whispered.

“The legal battle is just beginning,” Marcus corrected gently, adjusting his glasses.

“But the immediate threat to the foundation is contained.”

I looked down at the heavy mahogany frame of my mother’s portrait.

“Let’s get her out of the basement,” I said.
