“They should be arriving at the side entrance now,” Marcus added.
A loud thud echoed from the ceiling above us.

“The movers,” I said.
“Grant is moving up the schedule.”
“We have to act now,” Lorna said, her jaw tight.
“If they load those boxes onto the truck, we lose the original ledger books.”
“The regulators are here,” Marcus said, looking at his phone.
“I will let them in through the basement delivery doors.”
He hurried down the narrow corridor toward the loading dock.
Lorna and I stood by the service elevator.
“Are you ready for this, Emma?” Lorna asked, her hand resting on my shoulder.
“I’ve been ready since the day my father died,” I said.
The elevator bell dinged softly in the quiet basement.
The heavy steel doors began to slide open.
Inside the elevator cab stood Grant.
