The screen was cold under my fingertip as I scribbled my signature.

He handed me the heavy envelope, which was sealed with red security tape.

“Thank you,” I said.

He nodded once, pulled his hood lower, and stepped back out into the gray afternoon rain.

“Are you alright, Emma?” Dina asked, her voice a quiet whisper.

“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“Helen is threatening to release falsified medical records about my mother,” I said, keeping my voice low.

Dina gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.

“She wants me to stop the audit before the investigators arrive.”

“They are already in the main conference room,” Dina whispered, leaning forward over the desk.

“Two of them arrived five minutes ago with large black cases.”

“And Grant?” I asked.

“He and Vanessa have been locked in the library for the last hour,” Dina said.

“I saw Vanessa carrying a stack of files from the archive room earlier.”

“They are trying to sanitize the records before the auditors see them,” I said.

I looked down at the heavy envelope in my hands.
