“She stole those files,” Callum said, pointing a finger at me.
“She and Vance cooked the books to ruin this family.”
His attorney grabbed his sleeve, trying to pull him back down.
“Sit down, Callum,” Sterling hissed.
Callum shook him off, his face flushed a dark, angry red.
I sat perfectly still, holding my hands over my stomach.
The baby kicked, a small, sharp movement against my ribs.
I took a slow breath through my nose, smelling the damp wool of the gallery coats and the sharp scent of lemon floor wax.
“Mr. Prescott, if you speak out of turn again, I will have the bailiff remove you,” Judge Mallory said.
Her eyes were like flint behind her wire-rimmed spectacles.
“And I will hold you in contempt of court.”
Callum slowly sat down, his chest heaving.
He stared at the defense table, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles were white.
“Ms. Chen, please continue,” the judge said.
“The ledger includes encrypted emails from Mr. Prescott’s personal account,” Ms. Chen said.
She laid the papers on the podium.
“These emails coordinate the systematic bribery of foreign port officials in Rotterdam.”
