I let out a long, quiet breath, the tension in my shoulders finally beginning to ease.
But as I looked at the defense table, I saw Callum lean over to his attorney.
He wasn’t looking at me anymore; he was looking at a small tablet his attorney had just slid in front of him.
The attorney’s face had gone completely white.
“Your Honor,” Callum’s attorney said, his voice shaking slightly as he stood up.
“We have just received an emergency transmission from the federal forensic team.”
Judge Mallory frowned, looking down from the bench.
“What is the nature of this transmission, Mr. Sterling?” she asked.
“It concerns the black ledger delivered by Arthur Vance,” Sterling said.
He looked back at Callum, who was staring at the tablet screen with wide, unblinking eyes.
“The preliminary audit of the ledger has just been completed,” the attorney said.
“It does not just contain records of the trust fund transfers.”
The courtroom grew so quiet I could hear the rain beginning to tap against the high glass windows.
