The room seemed to grow colder, the hum of the monitors suddenly louder.

“She is going to abandon Callum,” I said, the realization hitting me.

“Yes,” Arthur said. “She knows the trust fund theft charges are solid.”

“If Callum goes down, he takes the entire Prescott Global asset pool with him.”

“Unless she cuts a deal first.”

I rubbed my thumb over Leo’s tiny, soft knuckles.

Vivian would do anything to protect the family money, even if it meant sacrificing her own son.

“She will offer them Callum on a silver platter,” I said.

“She has the original ledger copies,” Arthur agreed. “The ones Callum thought he destroyed.”

“If she hands those over to the prosecution, Callum will never see the outside of a prison cell again.”

“And Vivian will walk away with her personal assets intact.”

My phone, sitting on the bedside table, began to vibrate against the wood.

The screen lit up with a text message from an unknown number.

I picked it up with a trembling hand, keeping my eyes on the glowing screen.

The message contained a single PDF attachment and a brief sentence.
