It came from one of the guards standing on the upper terrace of the villa.

Derek stopped moving, his hand still buried in his jacket.

The wind picked up, rattling the iron gates at the end of the long driveway.

In the distance, a faint, high-pitched wail began to echo through the trees.

Sirens.

They were coming from the main highway, heading straight toward the estate.

“They are coming for you, Derek,” I said.

“For the forgery, and for what you tried to do to me tonight.”

Derek looked at me, a hateful smile spreading across his lips.

“If I go down, Clara, I am taking your father’s name with me,” he whispered.

“I will tell them everything about the Moretti family.”

“There is nothing left to tell,” Vincent said.

“The truth is already on the screen.”

Vincent held up his own phone, the blue light flickering on his face.

A new notification was flashing on the screen.

Vincent’s brow furrowed as he read the message.

He looked up, his eyes darting toward the main gate.

The sound of the sirens grew louder, accompanied by the bright, flashing lights of multiple vehicles.
