The Crimson Seal and the Shadow of the Obsidian Lounge
Vincent stood perfectly still in the dim light of the terminal.
“That is a receiver,” Vincent said.
“And it just connected to my network.”
Derek’s face went pale.
“What did you do?” Derek screamed.
He gripped my hair, pulling my head back.
The pain shot down my neck, but I kept my fingers locked around the steel tool.
“Look at your phone, Derek,” Vincent said quietly.
Derek looked down at the screen in his hand.
The map with the green dot had vanished.
In its place, a single line of red text was scrolling across the display.
The screen suddenly went entirely black.
At the same moment, the high-security lights of the terminal flickered.
The overhead floodlights buzzed and died, plunging the entire dock into near-total darkness.
Only the blinking red light inside the container remained.
“Shoot him!” Derek screamed to his guards.
But before the guards could aim, a loud, metallic clang echoed from the far side of the dock.
A heavy iron gate had just slammed shut behind us.
The sound resonated through the dark terminal like a gunshot.
