The Crimson Seal and the Shadow of the Obsidian Lounge
We reached a heavy security door at the bottom of the stairs.
Leo swiped a keycard and entered another code on a digital pad.
Inside was a small, windowless room filled with computer monitors, a desk, and a simple cot.
“This is the auxiliary security hub,” Leo said, gesturing for me to sit. “It is the safest place on the property. The walls are reinforced steel.”
I sat on the edge of the cot, my knees weak.
The monitors on the wall displayed live feeds of the estate’s perimeter.
Rain lashed against the outdoor cameras, blurring the dark shapes of the pine trees.
“I have to go back up and coordinate the transport guards,” Leo said, standing by the door. “Lock this door from the inside. Do not open it for anyone but Vincent or me.”
“I understand,” I whispered.
He stepped out, and the heavy door slid shut with a metallic thud.
The lock engaged with a loud, mechanical hiss.
I was alone in the silence.
The only sound was the low, steady hum of the server racks in the corner of the room.
