A second later, it began to vibrate again, the name “DARROW” lighting up the dust motes in the air.

Liam reached out and picked up the phone, but he did not answer it.

He looked at the screen, then looked at me, his brow furrowed in deep concern.

“We need to get out of here,” Liam said softly.

“We can’t leave Chloe,” I said, my voice cracking as I looked toward the dark hallway where she had been taken.

“The police are on their way, Audrey,” Liam said, his hand coming to rest on my shoulder.

I looked up at him, confused. “How? We didn’t have time to call them.”

Liam reached down and tapped the side of his heavy smart watch.

“Before we entered the building, I activated a tracking signal,” he explained.

“It is linked directly to Detective Holt’s unit.”

“She has been tracking our location since we left the estate.”

Beatrice’s laughter cut off instantly, her eyes widening in sudden panic.

“No,” she muttered, trying to twist her wrists free from my grip. “No, Darrow said we had time.”
