I walked over to the bed and wrapped my arms around both of my sons.
“Yes, we did,” I said, my voice shaking with emotion. “We are safe now.”
Mason let out a long sigh, his shoulders finally relaxing completely.
“We don’t have to go back to that house?” Mason asked softly.
“Never again,” I said, kissing the top of his head. “We are going to find a new place, just for us.”
My mother smiled, her eyes shining with tears as she watched us.
“The truth always comes to the light, Emily,” she said, her voice warm and clear.
“Yes, it does, Mom,” I said, holding her hand.
