“I built this family!” he shouted, his voice echoing off the book-lined walls.

“I kept us in the high circles of this state!”

“You enjoyed every single dollar of it, Eleanor!”

“Not anymore,” she said.

The lead agent stepped into the room, holding a red folder containing the warrants.

“Gregory Richards, you are under arrest for conspiracy, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice,” the agent said.

“Where is my legal team?” Gregory demanded.

He looked around the room as if his attorneys would appear from behind the velvet curtains.

“Call the firm,” he ordered his lawyer, who had just entered the room behind us.

“Get the managing partner on the line.”

“They aren’t coming, Gregory,” I said.

I took a step closer to him, looking down at the desk where his personal phone lay.

“Denise has already turned over the offshore routing numbers,” I said.

“She signed the cooperation agreement in Oakland thirty minutes ago.”

Gregory froze, his chest heaving.

“She wouldn’t,” he muttered.

“She doesn’t have the access.”

“She has had the backup keys to your safe-deposit box for five years, Gregory,” I said.
