Her fingers flew across the keyboard.
“We need to fight this with everything we have,” Victoria said, not looking up. “And we have twenty-four hours to prepare.”
“What can we do?” Laura asked. “They have money. They have Judge Miller in their pocket.”
“Money doesn’t cover up everything,” Victoria said. “Especially not when there is a paper trail.”
She stopped typing and looked at me.
“Emma, we need to prove Ryan’s neglect,” Victoria said. “We need to show the judge that while you were fighting for your life, Ryan was willfully absent.”
“He was in Aspen,” I said, the memory of his empty side of the bed chilling me. “He went on a ski trip with his friends.”
“I have the video,” Laura said suddenly.
Victoria looked at her. “What video?”
“One of Ryan’s friends posted a video on Instagram,” Laura said, reaching for her purse. “It was taken the night Emma was in the ICU.”
She pulled out her phone and tapped the screen.
“Ryan is in the background,” Laura said, turning the screen toward Victoria. “He’s holding a drink. He’s laughing.”
