“Mark has lost his mind.”

“He was talking to himself in the study before I left.”

“He was talking about his mother.”

“He said he was going to burn the agave ranch down with you inside it.”

“He said it was the only way to clean the slate.”

A cold sweat broke out across my forehead.

“Yasmin, where are the documents?” I asked.

“I have them in my bag,” she said.

“The commitment papers signed by Vale.”

“The financial records.”

“Everything is here.”

“But I’m leaving.”

“I’m going to the old warehouse on 4th Street.”

“Tell Ana to meet me there.”

“If she’s not there in twenty minutes, I’m burning them myself and running.”

“Wait—” I said.

The line went dead.

I looked at the screen.

The call had ended.

I tried to call Ana, but it went straight to voicemail.

“Ana, it’s Alana,” I said after the beep.

“Yasmin called.”

“She’s not at the diner.”

“She went to the old warehouse on 4th Street.”

“Mark knows she took the files.”

“Be careful.”

I hung up.

The silence in the room was deafening.
