“I remember your voice,” Marcus said calmly. “You’re the one who called my office phone last week, screaming and making threats.”

Scott blinked, momentary confusion crossing his face before his anger returned.

“That was a private call,” Scott said.

“You threatened my employee, and now you are harassing her in our workspace,” Marcus said.

Marcus reached into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone.

“I’ve already dialed building security,” Marcus said, showing Scott the screen. “They are in the elevator now.”

“You can’t do this,” Scott said, his voice cracking. “Avery, tell him to back off.”

I remained silent, my hands flat on my desk.

“Sign the paper, Avery!” Scott yelled, thrusting the document toward my face again. “Just sign it!”

The elevator doors chimed again at the end of the hall.

Two burly security guards in dark blue uniforms stepped out.

Marcus signaled them with a nod.

“He’s the one,” Marcus said.

The guards walked quickly down the aisle toward us.

Scott looked at the guards, then back at me, his eyes filled with desperation.

“This is my money, Avery!” he yelled. “You don’t deserve a single dime of it!”
