“That is the lead partner at Pacific Crest Capital,” Caleb said.

“They are officially freezing the development account.”

“They want a meeting tomorrow morning regarding receivership.”

“No,” Grant whispered, his hands curling into fists.

“No, we can’t let them do that.”

The door to the conference room opened again.

A young man in a courier uniform stood in the doorway, holding a manila envelope.

“Is there a Caleb Rhodes in here?” the courier asked.

Everyone turned to look at the door.

The courier stepped forward, holding out a pen.

“I have an emergency injunction from the state licensing board,” the courier said.

I looked at Diane.

She gave me a very small, professional nod.

The trap was closing.

“What is that?” Grant asked, his voice barely a whisper.

“The state board is suspending your developer’s license,” Diane said, her voice smooth and even.

“Pending the outcome of the fraud investigation.”

Caleb took the envelope from the courier and signed the slip.

He ripped open the paper and scanned the contents.

“It’s over, Grant,” Caleb said, tossing the documents onto the table.
